چکیده

We investigate architectures where a tactical radio subsystem can integrate in civilian systems. The idea is that civilian communication infrastructure should be used wherever it is available. One such possibility may be found in the proposed next generation wireless communication system UMTS, wlhere the definition of a Radio Network Subsystem (RNS),, encapsulating all the features of wireless mobile communication has been proposed. We adopt this design parad[gm to see if it is possible to find a low cost military network (by maximal use of civilian network technology and communication applications). The idea is to within the framework of an RNS, encapsulate also features specific to tactical wireless communications, a Tactical Radio Access Network (TRAN). Based on UMTS we describe two system concepts for designing a TRAN and analyze the archltectureso

Vehicular networks and the future of the mobile internet

Please cite this article in press as: M. Gerla, L. doi:10.1016/j.comnet.2010.10.015 The first DARPA experiment with wireless mobile Internet – the Packet Radio Network or PRNET – was completely independent of the infrastructure. This model was consistent with DARPA military goals as the PRNET was designed to support tactical operations far away from any wired infrastructure. Beside autonomy, th...

Multi-channel Medium Access Control Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey

Extensive researches on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been performed and many techniques have been developed for the data link (MAC) layer. Most of them assume single-channel MAC protocols. In the usual dense deployment of the sensor networks, single-channel MAC protocols may be deficient because of radio collisions and limited bandwidth. Hence, using multiple channels can significantly ...
